“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” ― Plutarch
Mrs. Tripp believes that the purpose of education is to ensure that students engage with as many different perspectives and cultures as possible and that they develop a strong sense of self-advocacy. She believes the classroom is an opportunity to develop empathetic students who understand history has a multiplicity of perspectives, to cultivate critical thinkers who look for context, and to demonstrate how we are all connected by our shared journeys. It is this philosophy that she brings to her AP World History classroom at North Atlanta High School, where she has taught since 2016. In addition to her work teaching, Mrs. Tripp has been a curriculum writer for APS for 3 years. In this capacity, she has written units of study for the Office of Social Studies, most recently revising the resources to integrate SEL competencies. She participated in the City of Atlanta: APS City Design Project with the City Planning Department and was recognized by the Atlanta City Council with a commendation. She presented this project on behalf of APS at the annual conference for the National Council for Social Studies in November of 2019. Mrs. Tripp also regularly leads districtwide professional development and participates as a judge for the Governor’s Honors Program and Social Studies Fair. She is also the faculty advisor for Rho Kappa at North Atlanta, serves as vice-chair on the GO Team of North Atlanta, serves on the Superintendent's Teacher Advisory Committee, and is on the Family Engagement Leadership Team. She is a certified Google Trainer and is passionate about technology! She is honored to serve as North Atlanta's Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020. Prior to joining APS in 2016, Mrs. Tripp taught at Lumpkin County High School in Lumpkin County, Georgia from 2014-2016. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in history and secondary education from North Georgia College and State University (now UNG) in Dahlonega. In addition to her major she also minored in Spanish. She is GACE certified in World History, US History, Political Science, Spanish, ESOL, and is Gifted endorsed. Mrs. Tripp is also IB trained and continues to challenge herself professionally whenever possible! Born and raised in West Africa, and completing middle and high school in Latin America, she values her international upbringing and perspective, as well as the languages she has learned along the way. She enjoys traveling, spending time at home with her husband, James, and their cats, and getting out to experience all the rich culture of her newest home, Atlanta. Her catch phrase is "Fun fact - not that this is at all useful, but -- !". |
